Thankfully, the development team seems to have learned from some of these challenges. The checkpoint system during major boss fights is actually quite generous – you'll typically restart at the beginning of whatever phase you reached rather than from the very start. This saved me what I estimate would have been an additional 5-6 hours of frustration across my entire playthrough. The companion AI has also seen significant improvements. Your AI partner provides reliable callouts during combat and can genuinely change the tide of battle with well-timed interventions. I lost count of how many times my companion pulled enemies off me or interrupted attacks that would have certainly ended my run.

What's interesting is how these elements create a somewhat contradictory experience. The core combat feels fantastic when everything clicks – there's a real sense of mastery when you perfectly dodge, parry, and counter-attack in fluid succession. But the inconsistency in telegraphing and the punishing stunlock mechanics sometimes undermine that satisfaction. I found myself loving the game in moments and feeling genuinely frustrated in others, often within the same combat encounter.

For players considering diving into Jili Games' latest, I'd recommend approaching with adjusted expectations. If you're the type who enjoys mastering complex combat systems and doesn't mind some trial-and-error learning, there's definitely enjoyment to be found here. But if you're easily frustrated by what can feel like unfair deaths or unclear visual feedback, you might want to wait for potential patches or consider playing on an easier difficulty setting. The game shines in many areas – the world building is exceptional, the character development meaningful, and the core combat mechanics are fundamentally sound – but it's held back by these specific design choices that impact the overall flow and fairness of combat encounters.

Having completed the main story and about 85% of the side content, I can say that Jili Games has created something with tremendous potential that's slightly marred by these combat inconsistencies. It's a solid 7.5/10 experience that could have been a 9/10 with more polished enemy telegraphing and slightly less punishing stunlock mechanics. Whether that's enough for you depends entirely on your tolerance for these particular issues and your passion for the genre.
